Bristol City face Birmingham City at Ashton Gate this evening as they search for their sixth win in their last Championship seven games.

The Robins would go third in the table with a win tonight but will recognise they face tough opposition in Pep Clotet's side, who are unbeaten since the 1st of January.

City manager Lee Johnson spoke to the press earlier in the week, here are the main talking points...

On Birmingham and the strength of his squad

Johnson suggested that his side would need to be at their best to beat "a very good Birmingham side".

He added that he felt this current squad is the strongest he has worked with and suggested that his side were in the mix for the top two, not just the top six.

On the captaincy

With Josh Brownhill moving to Burnley and Bailey Wright joining Sunderland on loan, the Robins lost two captains in January.

Johnson indicated that having lost a number of leaders, decisions would need to be made but that Korey Smith, as a previous vice-captain, was a good fit and would lead the club tonight.

On injuries

The City boss also revealed that Andi Weimann would likely be fit for tonight's game after a dead leg against QPR but that Jack Hunt was 50/50.

He indicated that Tomas Kalas and Marley Watkins were further away from a return.

On new signings

Unsurprisingly, Johnson was pressed on his thoughts on the January transfer window during the press conference and the City boss indicated he felt the Robins had done some "great business".

He highlighted Nahki Wells as "a really important signing for us" because he is "an experienced player now at Championship level and proven by scoring a lot of goals."

He also revealed that he has confidence in the fitness of new arrival Markus Henriksen, that he sees him competing for a place in both attacking and defensive midfield and that he can provide some of the physicality they've lacked since Marlon Pack's exit.

On Famara Diedhiou's contract

With the striker's contract set to expire next summer, Johnson was pressed on his future and replied: "Fam's a player that we like. We look to keep our best players but there are always circumstances that go into it and it wouldn't be right for me to reveal.

"But certainly coach-player relationship is extremely strong and we want nothing but the best for him and hopefully the best is staying with Bristol City."
