Millwall travel to Birmingham city this weekend looking to build upon the solid start they have made to Gary Rowett's tenure, with the Lions having only lost once since the former Derby County boss took over the reins at the New Den.

The New Den faithful and Rowett alike will have been left feeling frustrated earlier this week as they saw their side only muster a 2-2 draw against lowly Wigan Athletic, with the Lions showing their defensive frailties throughout the tie.

Rowett will be looking for an improved performance from his side on Saturday as they travel to St Andrew's to take on one of the 45-year-old's former clubs.

Birmingham themselves have been in inconsistent form of late, registering just one win in their last five league outings, meaning that Millwall will head into the tie feeling fairly confident of taking all three points from their hosts.

Here, we take a look at the likely starting eleven that Rowett will pick for Millwall's trip to Birmingham this weekend....

With Millwall having picked up a priceless 1-0 away win at Swansea City earlier this month, we can foresee Rowett reverting back to the 3-4-3 formation that gave his side so much success in south Wales for this weekend's game, meaning that both Ben Thompson and Tom Bradshaw will have to be sacrificed.

Bartosz Białkowski is highly likely to be between the sticks once more for the Lions, with the veteran goalkeeper having been in fine form for the south Londoners this term.

In defence, we expect Rowett to bring Alex Pearce back into the fold after being benched for the 2-2 draw with Wigan, meaning that the experienced centre back will take his place in the centre of the back three, thus allowing Messrs Jake Cooper and Shaun Hutchinson to shift wide to become the left and right centre-backs.

In midfield, Murray Wallace and Mahlon Romeo will be pushed up as attacking wing backs/wide midfielders to form a four man block, with both Jayson Molumby and Shaun Williams once again dictating the play in the centre of the park.

These changes in structure to the defence and midfield mean that Rowett will once again go with a dynamic front three of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson as the lone target man, with Jed Wallace and Connor Mahoney playing as inside forwards, a role in which the duo can exploit the half spaces between the oppositions full backs and centre backs.

This formation is likely to give Rowett's side a more solid defensive outlook, whilst also providing good numbers to get forward and create chances, thus offering a perfect balance for the Lions.
