Aston Villa face their biggest test of the season this Saturday, as they face Fulham in the Championship play-off final.

After scrapping through in the semi-final against Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough in their semi-final, with a 1-0 aggregate victory, Steve Bruce’s season rests on their last game of the campaign.

Whatever the outcome of the play-off final this Saturday, Bruce will turn his attention to next season, and look to bring in players he believes have what it takes to get the Villans playing better, whatever league they are in.

Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke ended the season as joint third top goal scorer in the Championship, in a Blades side that finished tenth, just six points off the play-off places, and could be the perfect candidate to improve Aston Villa’s front line.

While Villa scored a healthy 72 goals during the last league campaign, their top goal scorer Albert Adomah, isn’t even a striker.

While 15 goals is an impressive tally from the wide player, the presence of a striker in the middle throughout the entire season, not just the second half which they had through Lewis Grabban, could have pushed Aston Villa slightly towards the automatic promotion places.

While Grabban is an out and out goal scorer, the rest of the side lack fire power, but Clarke could change that.

The 33-year-old talisman scored 19 goals in his 39 appearances for Chris Wilder’s side this season, contributing with five assists too.

With the ability to hold the ball up, win everything in the air and a proven goal scorer, could Clarke be the perfect signing for the Claret and Blue Army during this summer’s transfer window?

After signing a three year deal with Sheffield United back in 2016, the Englishman has one year left on his contract. But, if Aston Villa came calling, the Blades may find it hard to hold on to their man.

If Villa secure their spot in the Premier League with a win at Wembley, heads will begin to turn and they will find themselves a more appealing club for the likes of Clarke to go to.

The Red and White Wizards won’t be letting the striker go easy, but for the right price, he could just be a Villan next season.
