Stuart Dallas has said that his new-found versatility could be of real benefit to Leeds United.

The 28-year-old made his name as a winger but has also played in a more defensive role as full-back for both club and country.

However, under Marcelo Bielsa, Dallas has been utilised more and more in a central midfield position - a role which has seen him line up alongside Mateusz Klich.

The Northern Ireland international is first to admit that it's not his strongest position, but if it means playing games and helping the club on their way to promotion, Dallas says that he's all for it.

Speaking to the Leeds United official website, he said: “Most of the time with Leeds and Northern Ireland I played as a winger and I’d played in the wing-back role occasionally as well.

"Under the manager he’s seen me more as a full-back or wing-back and I’m happy with that.

"If somebody asked me now I would call myself a full-back.  I enjoy playing there and it helps when you are playing with good players."

Dallas added: "It does benefit if you have somebody who can play in different positions.

Can you name every Leeds United player of the year from the last 15 years? Have a go and find out!

"It’s a big change for me going into central midfield, it’s not somewhere I’ve played before or my strongest position, but if the manager wants me to play there, I will play it to the rest of my ability. "Sometimes it can work against you because you don’t get stuck in that one position where you can play week in week out and get used to it.

"I’m not going to be a world beater, but I’ll give it a go and if it means playing, that is what it is all about.”

The verdict

He may not be a central midfielder by trade, but Stuart Dallas has certainly shown that he's more than capable of playing there.

The Championship season is going to be long and hard, meaning that for Marcelo Bielsa's side it's going to be a case of everybody in the squad mucking in and doing a job for the benefit of the team.

That's exactly what Dallas has been doing, and if the Yorkshire side do secure promotion then I'm sure they'll be thankful for the professional job done by the 28-year-old.
