Leeds United are looking to open talks with Kalvin Phillips about a new contract at the end of the season.

That's according to Football Insider who claim the Whites want to tie down the midfielder, along with Jack Clarke and Kemar Roofe, to longer deals at Elland Road.

Whilst the fantastic season the Yorkshire club have enjoyed has been a huge collective effort, there's no doubt that Phillips has established himself as a major player under Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentinian deserves a lot of credit for trusting the 23-year-old but Phillips has grasped the opportunity given to him.

He is very accomplished in his defensive midfield role and his ability on the ball is also underrated, with the academy graduate the one often setting the tempo.

As well as that, he covers the ground extremely well and is tactically disciplined, which is vital in this free-flowing Leeds side.

This news proves that key figures at the club recognise how important the midfielder is to the team and he will be delighted that his work has been appreciated.

It also highlights the mental strength and belief Phillips has in his own ability because he has had to fight to make himself a regular in the team and he has really found the role that best suits him.

Now, the immediate focus will be on helping the side win promotion but whatever happens it will be good for Phillips to get a new deal in the summer that reflects his importance to Leeds United.
