Steve Bruce will be hoping that his West Brom side can bounce back after what has been a difficult Championship campaign.

The Baggies, who started the season off in strong form under Valerien Ismael, saw their season take a downwards turn, with Steve Bruce arriving in an attempt to steer the ship.

In conversation with Birmingham Live, Bruce recently said that the Midlands club need "half a team" if they are to compete for promotion next season.

When asked if Bruce does need to undergo a rebuild to this extent, pundit Carlton Palmer told FLW: "The league does suggest so.

"I didn't really think they'd fall away the way they have fallen away after such a great start to the season.

"But they have done and Steve knows what type of players he needs to get the side promoted out of that league, he's done it before, he knows what's required.

"I'm sure if he's given the money, and the time, I'm sure he'll do that."

The verdict

It is difficult to pinpoint exactly what West Brom need this summer because they still possess a squad that is full of talent.

The problem lies in the fact that they have not been able to show that this season, on a consistent basis at least.

Still possessing strong options forward options in the likes of Callum Robinson, Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant, confidence appears to be the big factor that has been missing.

The Baggies certainly need a few additions this summer, that certainly looks to be the case, so if that is the way they are set to go, then they will be hoping to do it sooner rather than later.

Opting to do this quickly, means that the squad could be settled by the start of the campaign, giving time for Bruce to really embed his ideas.
