The November international break has come at a good time for Sheffield Wednesday as they have a few players that have been absent recently due to injury and illness.

Garry Monk's side are eighth as things stand, three points shy of the top six and very much in contention for the play-off spots.

The English coach has done a fantastic job since taking over–having taken 16 points from his first 10 games.

Wednesday will be hoping to kick-on and climb back into the top six after the break but face a tough test first up as they travel to the Hawthorns to play league leaders West Bromwich Albion.

Monk will no doubt want as many options available to him as possible and with that in mind, here are the latest injury updates from Hillsborough...

Julian Borner

Borner missed Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Swansea City last weekend due to illness.

The central defender pulled out of training the Friday before the game after picking up a bug but seems likely to be ready for the game against West Bromwich Albion.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star after the draw with Swansea, Monk said he expected the German defender to be "back with the group soon".

Sam Hutchinson

Hutchinson was another absentee from last weekend's game after picking up a calf injury in training.

It was revealed after the match that the 30-year-old was likely facing seven to 10 days out, meaning he should be back in contention after the international break.

Monk told the Sheffield Star: "I don't think it is too serious. It is a grade one in the calf so that is anyway from seven days to 10 days."

Tom Lees

After more than nine weeks out, it had been suggested that the Wednesday captain would return after the international break but Borner's illness meant he was forced to return to the side against Swansea.

Lees played the full 90 minutes against the Swans and though Monk indicated he wasn't fully fit, it appears he will be ready to go after the international break.

Massimo Luongo

The international break has come at the ideal time for the midfielder, who has been struggling to recover from what was at first believed to only be a knock.

Luongo picked up an ankle injury in the 1-0 win against Stoke City in October, having to be substituted after 54 minutes, and has not featured for the Owls since.

Monk told the Sheffield Star last week: "He’s edging towards (full fitness). He’s possibly unlikely this week but will be back in training possibly next week.

“It’s taking a bit longer than we thought but again, he’s nearly there, it’s just that slight little bit he needs to go through.”

Suspensions

Wednesday are not currently missing any players due to suspension.

However, Julian Borner has four yellow cards to his name, meaning if he receives another before they reset in three games time he will be handed a one-game suspension.
