Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to end their five-match winless run as they head down to The Valley to take on Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

The Owls’ form has dropped off recently and have only managed three points from their previous 15 available.

On Saturday the Owls travel to The Valley to take on Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic who are suffering an a mini-injury crisis themselves, missing key figures such as Erhun Oztumer and Lyle Taylor.

Garry Monk will be hoping to take advantage of Charlton’s situation with his Wednesday side looking for their first win since the 22nd October.

Here we take a look at the latest injury news from the Sheffield Wednesday camp, and when the players are expected to return to the fold…

Keiren Westwood

The 35-year-old goalkeeper has made 15 league appearances for the Owls so far this term, keeping four clean-sheets so far.

Westwood missed out on Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City on Wednesday evening with a minor shoulder injury and looks set to miss out again against Charlton.

Cameron Dawson will continue in between the sticks for the Owls after making his return against Birmingham on Wednesday evening.

Joe Wildsmith

Another goalkeeper who is sidelined through injury is 23-year-old Joe Wildsmith who left Wednesday with no goalkeeping option on the bench for the draw with Birmingham.

Wildsmith hasn’t featured for the Owls this term due to a cruciate ligament injury but Monk did say in the build-up to last weekend’s game with West Brom that the goalkeeper is only a “couple of weeks away.”

Like with the draw with Birmingham City, Wednesday will be without a substitute goalkeeper for Saturday’s trip to The Valley, something which Monk surely would have preferred not to be the case.

Suspensions

Wednesday will once again be without right-back Liam Palmer after the 28-year-old’s red card in the 2-1 defeat at West Bromwich Albion last weekend.

The right-back was handed a three-match ban for a late challenge on West Brom’s Grady Diangana and served the first match of that suspension against Birmingham.

As well as missing the Charlton game this weekend, Palmer will also miss the Owls’ home game with Brentford on the 7th December.

It is likely Moses Odubajo will continue in the absence of Palmer.

After picking up a fifth yellow card of the season against Birmingham, German centre-back Julian Borner has been handed a one-match suspension and will be miss the trip to Charlton.
