Portsmouth will be aiming to recover from back-to-back away defeats when they make the trip to face Gillingham in League One on New Year's Day.

Kenny Jackett's side are sitting two points outside the play-off zone following a strong run of form back in November, and they have been able to maintain their position in the table despite a mixed bag of festive results.

The south-coast club enter the Gillingham clash on the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat to MK Dons on Sunday, and Jackett now has a series of injury problems to contend with ahead of his side's trip to the Priestfield Stadium.

The most recent of these issues sees right-midfielder Ryan Williams sidelined after suffering an injury against Wycombe on Boxing Day, with the 26-year-old ruled out of the Gillingham trip with a groin problem.

Williams had been enjoying a prolonged stint in the side from October into November - with the winger having made a total of 19 appearances this term - but he will now sit out the first match of the 2020.

Pompey will also be without the services of injured trio Ross McCrorie, Lee Brown and Brandon Haunstrup, with this trio having been ruled out of the festive period with their respective injuries.

It should also be noted that Jackett will still be without longer-term absentees Bryn Morris and Jack Whatmough for the Gills clash, with the duo still in the treatment room after not featuring so far this season.
