Portsmouth will be hoping to put their disappointing defeat to Accrington Stanley behind them tomorrow afternoon as they take on 2nd placed Ipswich Town in League One.

The upcoming game at Fratton Park will be the first of two difficult tests within six days for Pompey, as they also come up against table topping Wycombe Wanderers on Boxing Day.

With last weekend's surprising 4-1 defeat to Accrington Stanley coming as a shock to the system, Pompey will know they cannot afford to drop more points as they sit in 10th place, just three points off the play-offs.

Ahead of the all-important game for Portsmouth, there has been some key updates with regards to injuries.

Pompey are likely to be without Lee Brown and Brandon Haunstrup for the foreseeable future, with both players undergoing surgery for their respective Achilles and knee problems. The pair are likely to be out for up to two months.

Haunstrup suffered the injury against Peterborough, damaging his meniscus in the process. It will mean that it is likely that Ross McCrorie will be at right-back for Pompey this Saturday.

Brown's injury also now leaves the club short at left-back, which may force Pompey's hand in the January transfer market.

Kenny Jackett said that Jack Whatmough took part in a training ground match on Thursday, but Saturday's clash against Ipswich may come too soon for the 23-year-old, who continues his recovery from a knee injury that has kept him out of the side since February.

Christian Burgess is likely to return to the heart of the defence after serving his one-game suspension against Accrington after accumulating five yellow cards. Oli Hawkins is also likely to be available once again.
