Former Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has been talking to the Daily Mirror about his time in charge of the club, paying special attention to the summer of financial woes.

Villa were in dire straights until Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris took over, with Dr Tony Xia gambling on a Premier League promotion that didn't happen. After failing to beat Fulham in the play-off final, the spectre of financial ruin hung over Villa Park.

Journalist James Nursey tweeted a portion of the interview in which Bruce spoke of fears about wages, saying; "I never thought i'd be in a situation at Aston Villa where we weren't going to get paid on a Friday. That's how bad it was."

That's not gone down well with Aston Villa fans on Twitter, with some making the point that Bruce was as much a part of the problem as anyone. He bought in players on big salaries and those players failed to secure a promotion.

Bruce has now moved on to Sheffield Wednesday but it's clearly irking some of the Villa fans that he feels the need to discuss his time with them in such an open manner.

Here's what they're saying on social media today.
