It's turned out to be a bitterly disappointing season for Brentford, despite a very bright start to the season.

The Bees were flying under Dean Smith in the early stages of the season, but were left rocked after the 47-year -ld's departure for Aston Villa in October.

Fast forward three months, and the West London club have dropped massively under Thomas Frank – they have won just five out of 18 games under the Dane’s tenure, and are down to 18th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

With just days left in the January transfer window, Frank hasn't really got a lot of time to improve his squad ahead of what now seems an unlikely play-off finish.

After the recent £12million sale of Chris Mepham to AFC Bournemouth, however, the Bees certainly have funds to work with, and anything can happen as we approach the Thursday deadline.

Here, we take a look at the last-ditch deals that Brentford should be looking to complete in the next two days...

Ethan Pinnock

After the departure of Mepham, there is a need to replace the Welshman in defence, and Pinnock has been a name linked with a move to Griffin Park.

The 25-year old has been a mainstay for League One promotion chasers Barnsley this season, featuring 34 times in all competitions for Daniel Stendel's men.

He's still got plenty of years ahead of him to grow as a player, and could be a fantastic signing for the Bees. Having already had a £3million bid turned down for the central defender, Brentford should definitely look to make another approach.

Karlan Grant

Grant is one of the most in-demand players in the country right now, and it is no wonder why.

The 21-year old has scored 14 goals and produced four assists for another League One promotion chasing side in Charlton Athletic this season, and would be a tremendous signing for the Bees.

With Premier League side Huddersfield Town looking increasingly likely to pursue the forward's signature, Brentford need to step in before it's too late.

Jamal Lowe

Should a move for Grant fail to materialise, then the Bees should definitely look to move in for Portsmouth star Jamal Lowe.

The 24-year old has been influential in Pompey's rise up the League One table - the attacker has scored 10 goals and produced three assists.

He's a very similar player to what Brentford usually go for to fit their attractive brand of football, and they could definitely tempt Pompey into selling with a lot of funds available after Mepham's departure.
