Preston North End have confirmed the signing of striker Connor Wickham.

The 28-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a short-term deal at Deepdale, with his contract set to expire in mid-January.

Taking the number 21 shirt, the forward has found his way back into the professional game after leaving Crystal Palace in the summer.

Wickham becomes the eighth player to join Preston since the start of summer and he had been training with the club for a few weeks.

Wickham got some minutes into his legs in a Central League game against Walsall last Tuesday, and is now ready for Championship action with The Lilywhites.

After starting his youth career with Reading, Wickham continued his progression with Ipswich Town.

Graduating from The Tractor Boys academy, the 28-year-old went on to appear 72 times for the now League One club, scoring 15 goals in the process.

Wickham joined Sunderland in 2011, spending four years with The Black Cats, and again scored 15 times in his career in Wearside.

Joining Crystal Palace in 2015, Wickham only managed 50 appearances during his six-year spell with the Premier League club, scoring 11 times and assisting a further five.
