It's been a summer of change at Middlesbrough, with Jonathan Woodgate taking charge of the first-team as Tony Pulis' successor at the Riverside.

Boro supporters will have been hugely frustrated to miss out on a top-six finish last term, as a poor second-half of their league campaign saw them miss out on a shot in the play-offs.

Woodgate hasn't been as busy as many would have thought in the transfer market, but he could be tempted to add to his squad before the transfer window closes in the near future.

So with all things considered, what can we expect to see from Woodgate's side this season?

Previewing their new league campaign is Football League World's Middlesbrough fan pundit Phil Wrightson.

Firstly, how would you sum-up Middlesbrough's transfer window so far?

"It’s been very much a story of high-profile outgoings so far. Aden Flint leaving is understandable as he probably doesn’t fit in with Woodgate’s preferred style of playing out from the back.

"Martin Braithwaite could have been one of the best players in the Championship but his departure confirms what Boro fans more realistic than me knew; his heart wasn’t in it and therefore its probably good business to cut our losses.

"The lack of incomings is of concern, especially with a week to go before the season kicks off, but Woodgate sounds like he knows what he wants so I’ll reserve judgement for now."

One rival team in the league you expect to do well this season?

"As much as it pains me, Bielsa staying at Leeds is a huge boost for them; they played the kind of high-tempo football last season that made me jealous as I was stuck watching 'Pulisball'. I think they may go one better this year and go up."

One player that we should be looking out for in Woodgate's squad?

"Lewis Wing in the centre of midfield had his breakthrough season last season after we bought him from non-league Shildon and immediately looked comfortable in the Championship with his Steven Gerrard-esque habit of always looking for the forward pass and his keen eye for a long-range strike.

"I expect him to get even better and become a real talisman under a manager whose ethos suits Wing's style of play."

Are there any youngsters you expect to see challenging for a first-team spot?

"With parachute payments gone, I expect we may have to rely on youth.

"Hayden Coulson at left-back looks quick and with Woodgate hinting that George Friend may be used as a centre-half, there is every chance he could be involved at Luton this evening."

How do you expect Boro to do in this season?

"We have a really good team but I'm not sure about our depth.

"Darren Randolph is the Championship’s best keeper, Dael Fry and Daniel Ayala are both very solid, whilst Wing and McNair can feed Britt Assombalonga who looked sharp at Salford in midweek, scoring a hat-trick within the hour. We need to get a deeper squad.

"If we get lucky and stay injury free I expect to be in or around the top-six."
