Graham Carey is having a wonderful season as Plymouth aim for back-to-back promotions.

Recent seasons have seen the Pilgrims consistently improve and Carey has been at the heart of that since he joined in July 2015. Carey's first season at the club saw him score 12 goals and he helped lead Plymouth into the play-offs where they were beaten in the semi-finals by Wycombe Wanderers.

The 2016/17 season saw him really prove his worth to the team as he became the chief attacking outlet and scored 15 goals as well as also assisting 15. This significant contribution helped Plymouth finish second and, therefore, they were automatically promoted to League One. Although this was slightly bittersweet as rivals Portsmouth beat them to first place on goal difference.

Going up a division means that it wasn't unfair to expect Carey's attacking contributions to reduce as the quality of the opposition increased. However, this hasn't been the case because he has adjusted well and is currently on eight goals and 11 assist for Argyle in the league this season.

This has helped the team up to sixth place. Argyle struggled initially in the league with five points from their first 10 games and 10 from the first 15.

December was the month when this all changed, though, because they have only lost once since the start of that month. From 15 games, they have picked up 11 wins and a total of 36 points from a potential 45.

They have won their last six games with victories against Blackburn Rovers and Shrewsbury Town being among them.

Carey has been key in that run with three assist and a goal. Keeping him fit will be key in maintaining the run they are on and helping their push for the promotion spots.
