Sheffield Wednesday finally made a move to appoint a new manager this weekend, as they brought in former Leeds and Birmingham City gaffer Garry Monk.

Monk will step into the shoes which have been filled by Lee Bullen for the opening month of the season, and although Bullen will stay on in a coaching role at Hillsborough, the book will stop with new man Monk when it comes to getting results.

Wednesday's new manager will hope to get off to the best start possible when his new team take on Huddersfield Town following the international break.

Monk is well aware that he has a good squad to work with at Hillsborough, and there's a few players in that squad who he will be looking to get the very best out of.

One of those players is striker Jordan Rhodes, who is back in S6 after spending last season out on loan with Norwich City. And while Rhodes hasn't hit the heights that his best form showed when he played for the likes of Huddersfield and Blackburn Rovers, his spell at Carrow Road last term showed he could still find the back of the net.

Rhodes managed to bang in nine goals while also hitting the target with just over 60% of his shots at goal. This sort of form bodes well for the Owls and Rhodes, given his shots on target percentage during his 16 goal promotion season with Middlesbrough was just shy of 50%.

The Scottish international is a proven goalscorer and has an impressive record in first-team football, scoring 76 goals in 229 appearances across his career, building a reputation within the game as one of the finest goal-getters outside of the Premier League.

Wednesday have thus far this season been going with the experienced head of Steven Fletcher up at the top of the pitch, and the Scot has impressed, scoring four goals already throughout the current campaign.

Monk will no doubt assess his squad and go with what he feels is best for his team, but if he can indeed get Rhodes firing and in the form he showed at the likes of Boro and Blackburn, then he could well prove to be an ace in the pack for Wednesday as the season progresses.
