Paul Heckingbottom will be gearing up for his first game in the home dugout at Elland Road next week as his Leeds United side take on Bristol City in what should be a thrilling game.

And, rectifying their poor home form has to be a priority for the ex-Barnsley boss.

Even though they are regularly backed by passionate crowds exceeding 30,000, Leeds have found it increasingly difficult to pick up points on their own patch.

The 4-1 defeat against Cardiff at Elland Road last time out proved to be the final game for Thomas Christiansen too.

Therefore, the new Leeds boss will have to change things to ensure that Leeds don’t freeze when they play at Elland Road.

Based on home form only the Whites would be languishing in the bottom half of the division and they’ve actually won more away games, so clearly it is a major issue for a side that have ambitions of making the top six.

When everything is clicking, Elland Road can be a superb place to play for the Leeds players. The support is one of the biggest in the division and they can make some serious noise.

However, that may bring its own problems when things aren’t going so well. Do players hide under criticism from their own fans? Is the atmosphere too demanding for certain players?

These are the questions that Heckingbottom will have to ask himself and he may have to be ruthless in the summer if some players aren’t capable of handling the pressure of playing for a club like Leeds United.

It’s up to the players to use the support of the club as a help but at times it seems like a hindrance – which is something Heckingbottom must change as soon as possible.
