Ipswich Town head to Peterborough United in a big game in Sky Bet League One, with a few potential dilemmas facing Tractor Boys boss Paul Lambert.
Town currently sit 10th in the table after a win over Blackpool at the weekend and have games in hand on most of those above them, so there is cause for hope that they can get into the play-off places by the time those matches all even out.
However, the first dilemma for him tonight could scupper those plans of using the game against Posh as a springboard with the club’s form against those sides at the sharp end of the table far from good enough in recent years.
Indeed, in eight games against top seven sides during their time in League One, they’ve recorded a loss each time and, with Peterborough currently in the top seven, there’s obviously an issue here.
However, such runs have to come to an end sometime and Lambert will be plotting that.
Another issue for the Ipswich boss to contend with, meanwhile, is the state of the London Road pitch and, indeed, the form that the home side are enjoying on it.
Many have commented in League One about how the grass is at Posh at the moment and with further bad weather expected, the game could well descend into a war of attrition.
Clearly, though, the conditions are favouring the home side with five wins from six on their own patch in the last few matches and that is another thing that Lambert and his players will have to contend with – he may well decide that certain players with recent fitness issues cannot be risked if the playing surface is not at an optimal level.
