Sunderland climbed up to fourth in the League One table this weekend as the top two changed once more in a tightly-packed promotion charge.

Barnsley replaced struggling Portsmouth in the automatic spots, with Pompey now just two points ahead of the Black Cats having played two games more.

There's a feeling they're dropping away from the hunt, leaving Barnsley, Luton and Sunderland as the two sides with the momentum to press on.

Sunderland's first season in the third-tier for three decades hasn't been as dominant as they might have hoped, but they have secured an interesting statistic.

They're the only club in the Football League to have scored in every one of their 36 matches this season.

It only took one goal to down the struggling AFC Wimbledon side this weekend, but the club's tweet this morning, complete with inspirational hashtag, is clearly designed to keep the fans onside with the promotion push.

They've only lost twice in the league all season, once away at Fratton Park and earlier on against Burton Albion, which has ensured they remain in touch with the top two.

Luton beat Shrewsbury 3-0 this weekend to keep their grip on the top spot, whilst Barnsley beat Scunthorpe 2-0 to move into second. Play-off hopefuls Doncaster held Portsmouth, meaning they're without a league win since New Year's Day.

The Verdict

Goals; the currency of football. If you have goals in your team then you're halfway to success. If you're good at the back but can't score, you're in a relegation battle.

If you're scoring every game but prone to lapses at the back, you can still be a success. look at West Brom for instance.

If Sunderland can keep up the prolific spell in front of goal then they'll surely be in the top two at the end of the season.
