Jacob Davenport has missed the majority of his Blackburn career with injury problems.

The midfielder arrived at Rovers in the summer on a permanent deal from Manchester City, but has been on the sidelines for the start of this season.

Davenport, 19, spent the last half of last season on loan at Burton Albion, who were relegated.

Despite their relegation, Davenport won plaudits from the Brewers fan base for his midfield abilities, which struck a surprising balance between passing and defensive duties.

Corry Evans and Richard Smallwood are the usual options for Tony Mowbray’s side in that holding midfield role, with neither failing to hit any serious form.

Yet, Davenport was a mainstay at Burton last season, making 17 appearances in the Championship since joining the club late in the January window.

And, finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the player. After multiple set backs, the talented holding midfielder is ready to make his first team debut for Blackburn.

Blackburn U23’s face Brighton this weekend, and Davenport is expected to feature.

Tony Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph: “He’s very composed with the ball, tenacious, snappy with his passing and I’m looking forward to getting him back up to speed. Whether that’s with a couple of games for the Under-23s, or a week or two training, we will wait and see.”

The Blackburn boss has overseen a relatively pleasing start to the season, with his side sitting in tenth as we enter match-day 13.

If Davenport can get fit, he can start to show the Ewood Park faithful why he won so much praise, including strong words from City boss Pep Guardiola.

He could be the man to make Mowbray’s midfield look a bit more functional.
