It has been a cracking season for Che Adams at Birmingham City, with his goals helping to push his side towards an unlikely play-off spot.

The Blues weren't expected to do well, the summer of financial restrictions believed to be a hinderance to their progress. Instead, they've excelled and proven that they've got character and resilience.

One player sums that up more than most, former Ilkeston striker Che Adams. He is looking to become only the third Blues player in 40 years to hit 20 goals in a season, following on from Steve Claridge and Trevor Francis.

If he achieves it, he'll become a legend of sorts at St Andrew's, not in terms of winning anything but as a benchmark for future strikers. We shine our spotlight on his season so far to understand what has made him such a key player for the Blues:

Adams has already hit 19 goals and barring a terrible stroke of luck, will make that 20 in the coming weeks. He's been incredible for the Blues, providing the energy and endeavour to complement Lukas Jutkiewicz's brute force and physical presence.

In his 32 outings in the Championship, Adams averages a goal every 1.68 matches. That's an impressive figure which, if he keeps it up, will take him to 27 for the season. It would be a great haul for the striker and surely set him on a collision course with a big money move in the summer.

He isn't one to waste lots of chances, he averages 2.2 shots per game. This from a side who don't create lots of chances, they're more resilient at the back and cautious with chance creation. A less deadly striker might have caused them to fall down the table, but Adams' excellent conversion rate has seen them soar.

He's usually on the end of the chance, rather than creating it, but he has chipped in with three assists during the campaign. He also averages 1.3 key passes per game, which means a pass resulting in a chance. He's certainly playing a key role up front, drawing 1.5 fouls per game too.

His passing stats are about average, 69.7% of his deliveries find a teammate, but he's not about passing and creation. Che Adams is a goal scorer and if he continues in the vein of form he's been in, he's one they'll remember at St Andrew's for a long time to come.
