Cardiff City are rivalling the likes of Bristol City in the race to sign Coventry City midfielder Zain Westbrooke this month.

Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (06/01, 10:55am) has credited Neil Harris with an interest in Westbrooke, who has struck four goals from central midfield so far this season for the Sky Blues.

So, would he be a good addition for the Welsh side and would he get a start under Harris?

We discuss…

Alfie Burns

“I’m not entirely sure that this is a fit that would work out for either party.

“Cardiff are obviously entering a new era under Neil Harris, who might be looking to build something with players of Westbrooke’s ilk, but to me, it doesn’t look a good fit when you consider the style the Bluebirds play.

“However, there’s plenty of interest in Westbrooke, which tells you he’s a useful midfielder, who at 23, has loads of time to adapt in the Championship.

“Given that competition to sign him, Cardiff might be onto something not too obvious to the naked eye.”

George Brooks

"Zain Westbrooke is clearly a talented player and he's been one of the best midfielders in League One this season. His performances for Coventry City in the third tier have been very encouraging, so perhaps it shouldn't be surprising that he's starting to attract interest from clubs at a higher level.

"He's got a lot of potential and with his contract at Coventry due to expire at the end of the season, he may feel that now is the right time for him to make the step up to the Championship.

"He's a creative midfielder and is very good on the ball, so he could be a decent signing for Cardiff City and Neil Harris could be able to get the best out of him and help him adapt.

"With that said, Cardiff have got some very experienced and talented players in their squad, and given that Westbrooke has hardly any experience in the Championship, there's a chance that he could struggle to get into the starting XI straight away."

Phil Spencer

“It’s no surprise to see Zain Westbrooke attracting attention.

“The midfielder has been a key part of Coventry City’s success so far this term after playing a part in eight goals.

“Cardiff have been disappointing so far this term and strengthening in the middle of the park could be a priority for Neil Harris.

“The former Millwall boss made a name helping players move from League One to the Championship and so a move to the Bluebirds could be the ideal platform for Westbrooke to step up to the second tier.”
