Jonny Howson has paid Leeds United the ultimate compliment by describing them as 'the best team in the league'.
The Whites travelled to the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night and recorded a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough to strengthen their hopes of securing promotion to the Premier League.
However the result wasn't good news for the Teessiders.
That defeat has put Jonathan Woodgate's side level on points with the relegation zone meaning that Middlesbrough face a tough few weeks ahead.
But while Howson admitted that his side have lots of work to do, he did reserve special praise for his former club who he backed to secure promotion this term.
Speaking to Middlesbrough's official website, Howson said: "In my opinion they are the best team in the league, and we gave it a good go.
"Sometimes in these tight games the first goal can decide it, and the timing of it today can take the wind out of you.
"We just need a bit more quality to put our chances away.
"But we can't just turn up against Leeds at home, we need to be doing it week in, week out.”

The verdict
It's hard to argue with Jonny Howson's verdict.
Leeds United have played some scintillating football at times this term and that means that it's no fluke that they find themselves in the automatic promotion spots.
Of course West Brom may disagree with Howson's claims as they hold top spot in the table, but there's still plenty of games left to play.
However as long as they secure promotion, I don't think either side will mind too much.
