Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has suggested that Whites winger Pablo Hernandez will be remembered as a club legend in years to come, which has been well-received by many fans.

The Spaniard agreed a new two-and-a-half-year contract extension yesterday, which ties his future to the club until the summer of 2022.

Hernandez is the seventh first-team player to be offered a new deal by the club this season.

How well do you know Pablo? Can you get 12 out of 12?

The 34-year-old had made a strong start to the season, adding two goals and two assists, prior to picking up an injury that has kept him out since September.

It appears he is close to a return and Marcelo Bielsa will no doubt be hoping he can rediscover the form that saw him provide 12 goals and 12 assists last season.

Speaking to the club website, Orta revealed his excitement at the new deal and heaped praise on Hernandez.

He said: "I think Pablo is one of the best players I have worked with in my career.

“He has an amazing ability to change a game, he gets goals and assists in equal measure and he is someone that the rest of the squad can look up to.

“I’ve worked with talented players in the past, but you have to consider Pablo’s attitude and work ethic as well as his ability and I firmly believe the history books will show Pablo to be a true Leeds legend in years to come.”

The winger has indicated that he is back to fitness and ready for the game against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

Hernandez appears to be a popular figure at Elland Road and many Whites fans took to Twitter to echo Orta's statement about his legacy.
