There is no doubt that West Brom must strengthen their backline if they are to bounce back to the Premier League.

Bagging Robert Bauer is one sure-fire way to do that.

The Werder Bremen full back has attracted interest from all three relegated sides as well as Club Brugge, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 23-year old had a poor season last year following a fall from favour.

He completed 90 minutes just nine times, while his four substitute appearances produced less than 10 minutes playing time combined.

After what appeared a break-out season last year, Bauer regressed. His tackles per game fell from 2.7 to 19, his interceptions from 2.4 to 1.3, and his clearances from 3 to 1.2.

His fall from favour came when Florian Kohfeldt became manager. Under Alexander Nouri, the German full back started 11 out of 12 games in all competitions; under Kohfeldt, he started just three times in 26 games.

Whether Bauer is worth signing comes down to whether he can return to his prior form. He needs to be played regularly and this would happen should he move to The Hawthorns. The right-back position was something of a hot potato last season. Duties were shared by players who preferred playing elsewhere, notably Craig Dawson.

Given his fall from favour, it is unlikely he would cost much more than the €2.5 million he cost Werder Bremen in 2016.

Ultimately, securing Bauer for the role would give Darren Moore one fewer positions to worry about.
