Garry Monk recently took over as the new manager at Middlesbrough.

Fans will be hoping that he is able to guide them straight back to the Premier League after suffering a bitterly disappointing relegation last season.

Aitor Karanka was sacked in the latter part of last season with Boro in danger of the drop and caretaker manager Steve Agnew was not able to keep them afloat.

As a result, they find themselves back in the Championship next season but with a promising young manager in Monk, a talented core of a squad and financial muscle to flex, Middlesbrough will be one of the favourites for promotion next season.

Monk will already be devising his wishlist of summer transfer targets.

On his list should definitely be Kyle Bartley.

Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley played alongside Monk at the Welsh club and was snapped up by Monk at Leeds last term on a season-long loan.

This loan move was a major success with Bartley proving to be one of the finest defenders in the second tier.

The former Arsenal youngster displayed leadership and turned in some solid and powerful defensive performances, as well as contributing with a handful of goals from set pieces.

Middlesbrough will need a new defender this summer, especially if Ben Gibson leaves the club.

Calum Chambers was an important member of Boro's defence last season but his loan has expired and he is likely to pursue his career in the Premier League now.

This is why Kyle Bartley must be a target for Middlesbrough, if they can prise him away from Swansea.
