West Bromwich Albion are interested in a loan move for Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury, according to The Sun's Alan Nixon, via Patreon.

The 24-year-old has been a fringe player at the King Power Stadium for the last few seasons and will be wanting more regular first team opportunities at this stage of his career.

The former England U21 international would be a very ambitious signing for a Championship club this summer, but the Foxes also may not want to send him out to a direct rival.

Steve Bruce has already added John Swift and Jayson Molumby to the midfield contingent at The Hawthorns this summer and bringing in Choudhury, even only on loan, would be another statement of intent.

FLW writer Adam Jones had his say on the prospective transfer when he appeared on the EFL Transfer Zone on FLW TV this afternoon.

He said: "It just sums up the freshness that Steve Bruce wants, I think having a fresh voice in the middle of the park will help them.

"I think he starts in place of Jake Livermore.

"He can really work well in a 4-2-3-1 formation, alongside someone like Alex Mowatt, perhaps giving Mowatt the licence to get forward a little bit more, having John Swift there as well as the advanced midfielder, I think Choudhury is the man who balances it all out, providing that layer of protection in front of the defence.

"This would be an ideal addition."

There may be some concerns over whether Choudhury will be first choice ahead of the new season and if he is only going to be a fringe player then a different destination should be considered.

However, as a ball winner in a midfield trio, this could prove to be one of the smartest signings of the entire window in the Championship.
