Sheffield Wednesday won the first time in the Championship since Boxing Day when they beat Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

Steven Fletcher scored the only goal of the match for the Owls, who remain 16th in the Championship table, 11 points off the playoff positions.

Wednesday have not yet been active in the January window, but incomings are expected before the end of the month.

With that in mind, we have taken a look at three of the free agents that the club should be keeping tabs on.

Philipp Wollscheid

Wednesday have one of the poorer defensive records in the Championship this season having conceded 45 times in their 28 matches. In fact, only Rotherham United and Ipswich Town have shipped more Championship goals this term.

The Owls could do with a new centre-back this month and should be looking at Germany international Philipp Wollscheid, who represented Stoke City between 2015 and 2017.

The 29-year-old has been without a club since leaving Metz last year, but has both Bundesliga and Premier League experience to his name.

Glen Johnson

Another possible defensive addition, Glen Johnson has been without a club since leaving Stoke at the end of last season.

The 34-year-old has never played in the Championship, but has plenty of Premier League experience to his name and can still contribute.

It is not the worst idea in the world for Wednesday boss Steve Bruce to attempt to bring the former England international to Hillsborough.

Stephane Mbia

Stephane Mbia is currently available on a free transfer having left Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse earlier this month.

The 68-time Cameroon international has experience of English football with Queens Park Rangers and at 32 years old, still has a lot to give.

There will surely be other clubs having a look at the 6ft 3in ace, who can play in both defence and midfield, but Wednesday should be keeping tabs on him.
