With July approaching and lots of teams starting pre-season training already, Bristol Rovers are currently ill-prepared for the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

The Pirates do not have a senior goalkeeper on their books at the moment.

Last season, they used three goalkeepers.

Kelle Roos started the season as the first choice stopper but he returned to parent club Derby County in January.

Will Puddy was the number one choice for a spell during the middle part of the season but his contract was not renewed.

Bristol Rovers ended the season with Joe Lumley between the sticks but he is back in the Queens Park Rangers squad ahead of next season, with the hope of staking a claim for their senior squad.

As a result, Bristol Rovers have been left light in the goalkeeper department and desperately need to sign at least one new stopper.

To bring in a goalkeeper with experience would be a massive confidence boost for the club and the players.

Therefore, Darrell Clarke needs to be looking at free agent Jon McLaughlin.

McLaughlin was a very consistent performer for Burton Albion since joining in 2014 and he enjoyed a successful season in the Championship last year.

His fine performances in goal helped keep the Brewers up in the Championship against all odds.

However, Nigel Clough has decided to release him for some reason and he is available on a free.

The 29-year-old has vast experience, having played over 250 games for Bradford and Burton in the Football League.

On a free transfer, the Scotsman is the perfect solution to Bristol Rovers' problems.
