It's been a so-so season down at Loftus Road for QPR, who under manager Ian Holloway will hope for an improved campaign next time out.

The Hoops had struggled initially under former chief Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who was shown the door after a poor run of form. In came Ian Holloway, who made a slight improvement but it would be unfair to judge the former Blackpool man until he's had time to put his own stamp on this R's squad.

The winter arrivals of Matt Smith and Luke Freeman have been promising and there's one man we think would make a superb free signing over the coming weeks.

The man in question? Former Newcastle centre-back Mike Williamson, who is available on a free transfer having been released from fellow Championship outfit Wolves.

The 33-year-old made a real difference when he first arrived at Molineux, being selected week-in, week-out but in recent months, he's struggled for match action after a succession of niggling injuries.

But there's absolutely no doubting that when he's fully fit and raring to go, he's a capable player that could turn out for most teams in this division.

QPR have been defensively shaky for a couple of years now and bringing Williamson in on a free, even just for cover, wouldn't be the worse move in the slightest.

He's big, tall and at times, knows where the goal is at the other end too.

For a free bit of business, this is one well worth thinking about for Mr Holloway. He'll have to be quick though- the 33-year-old will certainly be offered a deal elsewhere in the coming weeks, that's for sure.
