It’s been a tough few weeks for Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp, who has grown frustrated with the lack of transfer activity we’ve seen at St Andrews over the summer.
It’s fair enough too – the former Spurs boss was promised plentiful funds when he took the job in order to improve a Birmingham City side that just about survived last time out.
But the Blues boss has struggled to get deals over the line and it’s left some Blues fans worried about their lack of fire power ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Goals are already a worry after just one league game but there’s one man we at the FLW think would be a canny addition to Blues’ squad, if Redknapp can secure the deal.
The man in question? £500,000-rated Bristol City striker Matty Taylor.
Signed from arch rivals Bristol Rovers last season, the 26-year-old hotshot has fallen down the pecking order at Ashton Gate over the summer because of the signing of Famara Diedhiou.
Taylor only managed two goals in 15 appearances last season but looking at his goalscoring abilities for his former employers Rovers, it’s clear to see why Robins boss Lee Johnson gambled and brought him to the Championship.
68 goals in 134 games for Rovers is a pretty handy return, including 28 strikes in the 2015-2016 season which saw him help his side to promotion.
Of course, gambling on players who have made their names in the lower divisions will always be a risk but for Birmingham City, this does seem like the way forward as they continue to struggle to get deals over the line.
Taylor was seriously prolific over a good four years and there’s no reason why he couldn’t do it at St Andrews if Harry made a move.
