Millwall haven’t kept themselves quiet in this transfer window so far as the Lions continue to recoup their Championship status by acquiring a number of recruits to boost options across the field.
The prevalent manager in charge, Neil Harris, is adamant to get the south-east London outfit back where they belong and he’s began his second-tier revolution at the club by bringing in no less than four additions already; two of whom will be familiar faces to The Den.
Those others happen to be highly-sought-after striker Tom Elliot and experienced left-back James Meredith, both who plied their trades in League One last term. Now Harris should add some Championship pedigree to his ranks by penning ex-Celtic star Adam Matthews to a permanent deal.
The 25-year-old full-back made over 100 appearances for the Scottish giants prior to transferring south of the border to sign a prosperous four-year at Sunderland, however, his time on Wearside has gone completely against his dreams.
Matthews was initially sent out on loan to Bristol City in order to get regular minutes on the field towards the latter stages of the 2015/16 campaign, before turning last summer for a season-long stint at Ashton Gate.
Neither stretches in the south-west were particularly promising nor impressive as the Welshman failed to even break into the Robins’ starting eleven, casting doubt over his immediate future at Sunderland.
Still with a dragging twelve months until his contract expires, the Black Cats may aim to shift him sooner and that could work in Millwall’s favour if they are to pursue the predominant right-back as a target.
