Danny Rose's situation at Tottenham Hotspur could be about to have an impact on Leeds United.

The full-back completed a move to North London for a fee of just £1million in 2007.

The England international revealed earlier this week that he intends to leave the North London club at the end of his contract in 2021.

He told the London Evening Standard: "In January, you're probably going to hear something [about my future]. I'm telling you right now that I'm not going anywhere until my contract is finished.

"[Tottenham chairman] Daniel Levy told me in the summer there was no new contract for me at Tottenham, which is fine. I respect that. We move on.

"My contract is up in 18 months' time and I'll leave the football club then."

Rose joined Tottenham after coming through the ranks at Leeds United and it seems his decision to leave the Premier League side could cost his former club a seven-figure sum.

Phil Hay, who previously worked for the Yorkshire Evening Post before joining The Athletic, tweeted in 2015 that Leeds inserted a 10% sell-on fee into the deal that took him to North London.

That means that Rose, who was previously linked with a £50million move to Manchester United, could have led to the Yorkshire side pocketing a sum in the fee of £5million.

However the full-back's decision to leave Spurs at the end of his contract on a free transfer means that Leeds United will see no financial benefit from their former starlet.

The verdict

While there's little that Leeds United can do about the situation, the update on Danny Rose's future is bad news for the Yorkshire side.

After developing a talent who has played at the highest level for club and country, the Championship side will have been hoping to see a financial return on the defender after seeing him fulfil his potential.

While it's unlikely, Rose's boyhood club will no doubt be hoping that Spurs move to sell the defender so that they do actually get the financial benefit from the move.If Leeds fail to get promoted this season, that seven-figure sum that they would have received four years ago would have been a huge boost for the club as they continue to build the squad and continue complying with Financial Fair Play.
