Bury's troubles deepened yesterday as star man Danny Mayor admitted he was leaving the club in a heartfelt goodbye to supporters.

The Shakers won promotion to League One last season, but their off-field problems have driven them to the brink of extinction, resulting in the break-up of the squad and management team that did so well.

Manager Ryan Lowe has gone to Plymouth Argyle, whilst Nicky Adams left for Northampton. It was via Adam's Twitter account that Mayor said his goodbyes, as the midfielder doesn't have a social media presence of his own.

"When a bid comes in and you leave to further your career, that’s one thing, but I’ve had to leave because the club’s given me no option,” he said.

“They haven’t offered me a deal, they don’t look like they’re going to, and they don’t look like they want to pay any of the players. It’s a mess. I’ve loved it there so it’s a sad way to end. I’m devastated.”

It's widely believed Mayor is in talks with Ipswich Town about a move to Portman Road, but whatever he decides he goes with the best wishes of the Bury supporters, as you'll see from a sample of their posts below.
