Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck is attracting interest from West Ham United at this late stage of the January transfer window, with the Hammers looking to do a deal for the Scot.

According to the Sheffield Star, a £4m bid was rejected for the midfielder, with Fleck valued much higher by the Bramall Lane club.

However, it begs the question how much Fleck is actually worth, with the midfielder having no Premier League experience.

Here at FLW, we take a look at why we believe the midfielder is worth much more at £10m:

Fleck has been key to Sheffield United over the years, helping them gain promotion back to the Championship before playing a key role in establishing Chris Wilder’s side back in the second-tier.

The 27-year-old might only have seven goals to his name in over 100 league appearances for the Blades, but he registered 17 assists in their League One promotion campaign, whilst he’s added 10 in 18 months in the Championship.

The Scot dictates play and allows others to excel in the final third, making him so important to the Blades.

Wilder’s side are also going in search of their second promotion in three years, so for that reason alone, £4m was never going to get Fleck out of Bramall Lane, despite his lack to top-flight experience.

When you consider his importance to Wilder’s side and how they play, then the promotion race and the riches of the Premier League, it’s going to take more than double West Ham’s £4m to tempt the Blades into a sale.

The ball is in West Ham's court. If they want their man, they'll have to go big.
