Wolverhampton Wanderers are set for a busy summer.

Paul Lambert has expressed his dissatisfaction with the size of his squad so you can expect a major clear out this summer. The Wolves boss will also be looking to bring in more of his own players as he continues to put his personal mark on the Wolves squad.

Lambert has been clearly unimpressed by certain Wolves midfielders such as Romain Saiss and Prince Oniangue. As well as those two, Jack Price and George Saville are out of contract so we might see four central midfielders depart this summer.

If that happens, Wolves will need to buy at least one new central midfielder. Glenn Whelan is one name that should definitely be on Paul Lambert's list.

Although he is not the most glamorous player they could bring in, Lambert has often stressed how he wants to dispense with style in favour of getting the job done.

Glenn Whelan is certainly someone who will get the job done. The no-nonsense defensive midfielder is tidy in possession and ruthless out of possession, renowned for big tackles and breaking up attacks.

The Stoke City midfielder is an experienced campaigner in the top two tiers of English football and that knowledge of the game will be priceless.

The 33-year-old would be a welcome addition to most Championship sides and he would undoubtedly improve the Wolves midfield.

As he enters the final year of his Stoke contract, the Republic of Ireland international could be prised away for a cut-price fee.
