News broke today that Barnsley had lost yet another player in the window, this time it was James Bree, who has departed for Villa Park.
Bree joins Sam Winnall to have departed Oakwell and star man, Conor Hourihane could also join Bree and Winnall on the departures list, with a move to Villa also being touted.
The Tykes are in a great position to push for the Play-Offs this season, so selling their best players this month wouldn’t have been on the agenda, but the money on offer from the buying clubs was clearly too much to turn down.
Barnsley are actually above Villa in the league, but that stature of club Villa are, they can attract players to their club despite their below par performance this season.
Barnsley fans were slightly disgruntled at the sale of their best players but they do understand the reality of the situation and the money Villa were quoting for wages.
Here’s how Barnsley fans reacted on twitter…

Seems a shame to dismantle such a young improving squad. Feel for you Barnsley fans. Hopefully you reinvest
