Swansea City maintained their unbeaten away record in the Championship this season by securing a hard-fought point against Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Jay Fulton had put the visitors ahead inside the first 20 minutes with his powerful effort from inside the box, but Karlan Grant then levelled the scores in the 41st minute and it remained 1-1 until the full-time whistle.

There were some positives for Swansea boss Steve Cooper to take from the game, given his side showed a response following their miserable 1-0 defeat to Millwall on the weekend, but the Welshman will surely expect a higher performance level from his side in the future.

The Liberty Stadium outfit were also handed a blow during their clash with Terriers when centre-back Mike van der Hoorn was forced off injured at half-time, with Swansea's defensive options already limited following Joe Rodon's injury.

Van der Hoorn has played every minute during Swansea's league campaign so far this term, so there would have been some cause for concern when Cooper was required to replace the experienced Dutchman with academy graduate Ben Cabango at the start of the second period.

However, the alternative view is that van der Hoorn's injury problem presented Cabango with a golden opportunity to impress on his league debut for the club, and he this was certainly the case as he produced a composed performance in van der Hoorn's unexpected absence.

The 19-year-old lined up alongside Watford loanee Ben Wilmot at the heart of Swansea's defence, and the duo kept a clean sheet in the second period as they proved their ability to cope without regular defensive duo Rodon and van der Hoorn.

Wilmot has already displayed his quality during his four previous league appearances in Rodon's absence, but it was Cabango who particularly stood out at the John Smith's Stadium as he looked at home in the Championship.

The Wales Under-21 international delivered a sound defensive showing as he quashed a number of Terriers attacks singlehandedly, while he also looked composed in possession of the ball.

His display served as a timely reminder that Swansea have a strong production line stemming from the academy. Cabango is the latest in a string of talents to break through in recent seasons alongside the likes of Rodon, Connor Roberts and Daniel James.

It remains to be seen whether Cabango will be required to step up when Swansea host Fulham on Friday evening, but Cooper will now have no problem turning to the teenager following his showing against Huddersfield.

Swansea may not be blessed with depth across every area of the pitch, but Cabango's performance would have reminded Cooper that he can always lean on the academy to bulk out his playing options.
