Barnsley

The EFL striker that can be the difference for Bolton between final day safety and a return to League One

Having escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth, Bolton Wanderers will need to invest well in this transfer window.

With only 39 goals scored, a striker must be top of the shopping list.

One prime target must be Barnsley’s Tom Bradshaw.

The Welshman finished the season as top scorer for the Tykes, with 12 goals across all competitions.

It came as part of a natural progression for the striker – the past six seasons have seen Bradshaw either improve his goal tally or move up a division.

Now, with two terms in the Championship under his belt, he is ready to make a serious impact at that level.

With Barnsley having been the victims of Bolton’s last gasp escape, there may be a reluctance to sell one of their best players to the club that doomed them to League One.

However, a bottom half Championship side would be Bradshaw’s most natural fit – he is yet to suggest that he is capable of challenging for a starting place in a play-off chasing side.

Bolton need strikers they can rely on.

Gary Madine’s departure nearly proved fatal. Despite leaving in January, he finished the season as Bolton’s top scorer.

He was one of only three players to score more than two goals for the season.

Securing a player of Bradshaw’s calibre would not be enough to guarantee that the Trotters avoid a relegation scrap. More is needed for that. However, he could prove the difference between final day safety and a return to League One.
