The majority of clubs across the English football pyramid have released their retained lists for the new campaign, and those who are no longer contracted to a team will be in the search for a new employer.

One side in the Championship who will be pushing for the Play-Offs next year, regardless of their rivals' transfer business, is Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With Nuno Espirito Santo now at the helm at Wolves, the manager will be looking to make his mark on the team by signing a number of players this summer.

However, one midfielder that must be snapped up by the Midlands outfit in the next couple of weeks is ex-Burnley man Michael Kightly, who was released by the Premier League team following the climax to their season.

The 31-year-old was found surplus to requirements at Turf Moor half way through last year and subsequently was shipped out on loan to Burton Albion in the attempt to survive the drop, an aim they successfully triumphed in.

Kightly bagged four goals and provided a further one in twelve appearances for the Brewers, proving to be a hit at the Pirelli but financial constraints may mean a club such as Wolves may be more suitable.

He actually spent five years of his career at the club between 2007-2012 when Wolverhampton Wanderers were in the Premier League.

So the fact that Michael Kightly knows the club is one reason why they should make a move for him, but the other is that he still has a lot to offer in the second-tier and could largely help in their bid for promotion next season.

Wolves supporters, would you welcome Michael Kightly back to Molineux? Is he good enough for a play-off push? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments below!
