Nottingham Forest's lack of goals was a massive problem for them last season, finishing the season as the league's sixth-lowest scorers.

Their top scorer only managed seven goals whilst their top assist maker, Barrie McKay, only managed to create seven himself.

So creativity and ruthlessness seem to be the main hurdles stopping Forest from climbing the table. Aitor Karanka is clearly aware of this having already splashed out on Joao Carvalho, an attacking midfielder from Benfica.

But to be in contention of promotion you need goals and assists coming from multiple sources.

The answer to their prayers lies in League One and specifically at Peterborough United.

M&M

Jack Marriott is one of England's hottest properties at the moment having scored 33 goals in 56 games last season.

He has proven himself to be a tremendous all-round striker, scoring an even spread of goals with his right foot, left foot and head.

His two-goal performance against Aston Villa in January's FA Cup tie proves he would be capable of mixing it with the very best in the Championship.

The 23-year-old's partner in crime last season was Marcus Maddison, who racked up over 20 assists, 15 in the league and many of them for Marriott.

Estimated value

The Posh are believed to want over £6 million for Marriott, similar to the amount they claimed for Dwight Gayle in 2013.

It is likely that they will want more in terms of add-ons and a sell on clause, however.

Maddison will likely cost around £1 million despite the winger signing a new three-year contract before the start of last season.

An agreement between himself and Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony that he would be sold if Peterborough failed to win promotion this season means he will probably be available for significantly less than his quality would suggest.

But Forest should be willing to pay through the nose for the pair who will probably guarantee the East Midlands club an extra 20 goals next season.

They are exactly what they need.

Forest fans, how much would you be willing to pay for the Posh pair?
