Sheffield United are set to embark on a 6th season in League One, and with a new manager in Chris Wilder at the helm, expectations have shifted from last season, when they were expected to romp the league under Nigel Adkins.

The Blades though will still be expected to challenge near the top, which means to do so they will need to add players to many positions across the pitch.

Wilder will have thoughts in mind as to who he might want to bring in and what formation he might choose to play, so it will be interesting to see who he opts to select from the current crop of players, as well as who he looks to add in the transfer window.

With the Blades more than likely to start with Che Adams and Billy Sharp up top, it will probably come down to a four in midfield job for United.

I am of the belief that none of the current midfield is good enough, although in Louis Reed and Ben Whiteman we have to excellent promising youngsters.

With this in mind, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at a potential dream midfield for Sheffield United next season...

Right Wing - Mark Duffy

A pretty obvious choice to start with, but the man who spent last season on loan with Burton Albion has been brought in as a starter and nothing else.

Duffy will be expected to add the creative spark to a team which relied to heavily on the goals of the front two last term.

It appears to be a real coup by Wilder to have convinced Duffy to have signed, and his form last season earned him a place in the League One team of the season.

Blades fans will be hoping he can continue that form as he looks to hit the ground running at Bramall Lane.

Centre mid - Sam Mantom

Available on a free transfer and one of the unsung heroes in Walsall's season, Mantom would be an excellent addition to the first teams squad at Bramall Lane.

He impressed with a series of dynamic displays last term and there is no reason the Blades cannot convince him to join the set up in Sheffield, just as they did with Duffy.

Interest in Mantom is thought to be high, so Chris Wilder will need to act fast if he is to secure the players services.

Centre mid - Jose Semedo

Yes it might be controversial to some, yes he plays for the enemy in Sheffield Wednesday, but the fact remains, he is exactly what a team like United could do with.

Semedo is a ball winning midfielder, able to do the dirty work in the middle of the park which so many teams often miss during a long season.

The Owls have offered him a new deal, but at 31, he might be looking to move on for first team football. Wednesday fans love him, and there is no reason why he he cannot be loved at Bramall Lane, much like Derek Geary and Alan Quinn from days gone by.

Left Wing - Cameron McGeehan

mcgeehan
The former Norwich youngster has been revelation since he moved to Luton, and performed admirably last season hitting double figures in the goal charts.

While he might not necessarily be considered a wide midfielder all the time due to his capability to play in numerous positions, he could well do a job in any of the midfield positions.

The Blades struggled for goals from midfield last term, and McGeehan could well add that dimension to the team.

Luton will not want to lose him though, and he may well command a decent fee should the Blades try and prize him away.

Blades fans, what do you think to this midfield? Who would you like to see brought in? Let us know!!
