The positivity and optimism around Britain's Ocean City right now is something of which we haven't seen since the Championship days under the likes of Neil Warnock and Ian Holloway.

Despite the defeat to AFC Wimbledon in the play-off final at Wembley, most of Plymouth's fans are able to take a step back and see the bigger picture, that the club could have gone out of business five short years ago. Already the largest English city not to have ever had a club in the top flight, being the largest city in England without a professional club would have been devastating for the people.

Their large fan base was highlighted by the sheer number of supporters they brought to Wembley, over four times their average gate attendance. With the improving money situation, the club are in a great position to push on next season and finally start to rise back up the pyramid.

With a manager like Derek Adams, they have the right man to mastermind this, too. Here, in the opinion of FootballLeagueWorld writer Ryan Evans, is the DREAM midfield for Plymouth Argyle in League Two next season....

CDM: Carl McHugh

Carl McHugh

The excellent central midfielder has been amongst the club's finest players this season, making upwards of 40 appearances for the team in all competitions.

After operating mainly from centre-back and being pulled into midfield occasionally two seasons ago, McHugh was never really sure on where John Sheridan wanted him to play, but Adams was not to make the same mistake. By bringing McHugh into the base of the midfield, he allowed a centre-back partnership between Curtis Nelson and Peter Hartley to flourish, and become one of the best in the league.

He is a player who, to use the cliché, knits the play together, and screens in front of the back line. His importance is underlined by the fact that from late February to the third week of March, when McHugh was sidelined with an injury, Argyle's form dipped as they picked up just four points from five matches.

Out of contract this summer but offered a new deal by the Plymouth boss, McHugh could become a mainstay in this team that promises so much.

CDM: Dave Syers

Dave Syers78

A highly experienced players throughout the lower leagues, Syers could well be a hidden gem in the depths of English football that could bolster the midfield for Plymouth.

Injuries have plagued his past two seasons, making just nine appearances last season for Scunthorpe and Rochdale, but is looking to put that behind him.

He signed for Dale in January on a contract until the end of this season, although there has been no news regarding whether he will be leaving the club or not this summer.

After making 32 appearances and playing a key role as Doncaster won League One in 2012-13, he was also monumental in Scunthorpe's promotion from the fourth tier a season later. He knows what it takes to get out of this division, and that could be key for Argyle next season.

RM: Jake Jervis

Jake Jervis

After following Adams from Scotland to the South Coast in the summer, the 24-year old has hit the ground running this season, and scored six in his first nine to set up their promotion charge.

Whilst his season, like Argyle's in general, fizzled out after Christmas, he still looked a threat and probably had his best performance in April, bagging a brace in the 3-1 away win against Leyton Orient.

The Pilgrims' joint-top scorer with 11 goals, the former Birmingham and Portsmouth player has proven that he has an end product as well as being a handful for the opposition left-back.

Starting all three of the play-off matches, Jervis is an important part of the team and will likely continue to be next season. The club decided to take up the option to extend his contract this summer, news that was music to the ears of the Home Park faithful.

CAM: Graham Carey

Graham Carey

11 goals and 11 more assists make Carey Argyle's joint top-scorer, and was voted by fans to be the League Two player of the season.

His clever play and stunning ability to make key passes means that the Irishman became a fans' favourite almost as soon as he set foot on the Home Park turf, and, like Jervis, will be at the club next season after they took up the option to extend his deal.

After the terrific partnership of Reuben Reid and Lewis Alessandra brought the club surprisingly into the play-offs at the culmination of the 2014-15 season, a change of system meant that new faces were necessary, and after teaming up with Derek Adams at Ross County the season before last, Carey has definitely left his mark on the South coast.

In the defeat to Wimbledon at Wembley, the team struggled to get the 27-year old on the ball as much as in recent games, meaning he wasn't able to influence the game like he has so many times this season. Fix that, and Plymouth could be lifting the League Two trophy next season, such is the skill of the player.

LM: Gregg Wylde

Another one of Adams's Scottish signings, Wylde has actually represented the Scots seven times at Under-21 level. He started off his youth career at Celtic, before moving on to rivals Rangers, where he took voluntary redundancy after the club went into administration. Following that, he had an unsuccessful spell in England, playing for Bolton where he was shipped out on loan to Bury.

Then, he moved back north to Aberdeen, before St Mirren. He is a diminutive player who is quick off the mark and loves to commit a defender, making him a great player to watch. However, sometimes his final ball and decision making in the final third can be lacking, but at 25 he still has plenty of time to hone his game.

Plymouth fans, what do you think? Would you welcome a player like Syers to Home Park? Is that the position you think the club needs to strengthen this summer? Let us know below!
