It was a terribly disappointing season for Fulham under Slavisa Jokanovic who despite having one of the strongest squads in the division ended up in a relegation scrap.

The blame lies firmly at the shambolic defenses door as the attack was potent, with the strike partnership of McCormack and Dembele amongst the best in the Football League.

They started the season under Kit Symons but after a poor start he was sacked in Early November.  Symons did poor business in the transfer market bringing in Tim Ream and Ryan Fredericks who all struggled but Ben Pringle and Tom Cairney proved more fruitful.

Luke Garbutt also struggled to adapt to Championship life and under Symons the defence was a shambles, and it wasn't much better under Gray or Jokanovic.

Stearman and Madl helped steady the defence towards the end of the season and thanks to the 40 goals from McCormack and Dembele they stayed up, but both those strikers could be on the move.

Fulham desperately need to strengthen their defence if they are to challenge for promotion and get rid of those that have failed.

Here in the opinion of FLW writer Michael Hasan, is a dream defence for Fulham next season...

LB - James Husband

The Middlesbrough left back continued the tradition at Boro of bargains the club have signed from Doncaster, with first choice left back George Friend also from the same club.

Friend was one of the best full backs in the Football League and comfortably kept Husband out of the side, while when he was injured Middlesbrough preferred to play Gibson there.

Husband at 22 is very talented and Middlesbrough got him some game time last season by loaning him to Fulham for the second time in two seasons, where he was very impressive.

CB - Richard Stearman

Stearman

The big Englishman is a solid centre back with plenty of years of experience in the Championship and it was a strange situation when Wolves sold him to Fulham last summer.

Wolves had gone close to the playoffs the season before and Stearman's partnership with Golbourne was a big part of that, with the Wolves owner heavily criticized for it.

Wolves's defence became incredibly leaky because of it but Fulham could not profit greatly as Stearman was frequently injured when at the cottage.

Ream and Amorebieta struggled at the back and fans were grateful when ever Stearman was available for selection, and fans would like to see him play regular first team football this season.

CB - Michael Madl

Another one of the few defenders that impressed at Fulham was Michael Madl who was on loan from Austrian side Sturm Graz.

He was brought in towards the end of the season with Jokanovic partnering him with either Stearman, or Amorebieta when he played Stearman at right back.

Madl became a fan favorite scoring his first goal against Charlton and at the end of the season he signed a permanent deal much to the delight of fans. He hopes to break into the Austria team but first things first, he must establish himself in the centre back role at Fulham alongside Stearman.

RB - Tomas Kalas

A move that would show real ambition is a loan move for Chelsea right back Tomas Kalas who has plenty of experience in the Championship.

He has had two loan spells at Middlesbrough and is versatile enough to play right back and centre back. He provided crucial cover as he helped Middlesbrough get promoted making 27 appearances before returning to Chelsea.

Whether Middlesbrough want to buy him or loan him again is yet to be seen but Fulham should try to convince him to take the short trip across London to Craven Cottage, where Fulham are looking for a consistent right back.
