Gary Rowett has done a superb job since taking over at Birmingham City.

After inheriting a team that was spiralling uncontrollably towards League One, he has rescued the former Premier League side from that fate and narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season. Rowett will want to continue the turnaround and aim for promotion back to the Premiership next year.

To achieve this, the Blues will need to be more ruthless in attack as they only scored 53 goals in 46 league games last year. The likes of Denny Johnstone, Lee Novak, Matt Green and Wes Thomas as frontmen in recent years have all been substandard for the Championship and, as a result, the Blues have struggled to break down defences. Rowett will be keen to bolster their forward ranks with some high quality signings this summer.

Here is an attacking trio that could help Birmingham score the goals to fuel a promotion bid...

RW: Ravel Morrison

Ravel Morrison splits opinion with similar polarity to Marmite. But there is no denying this boy's raw talent.

Whilst Morrison has shown glimpses of his immense skill at West Ham, QPR and on loan at Birmingham, his whole career has been tarnished by his off-the-field mischief and poor attitude.

Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes have both described him as the most talented youngster they have ever seen but the former Manchester United academy member needs to apply himself or risk being forgotten. Birmingham could be a mutually beneficial move for both parties and if Morrison does return to St. Andrew's and perform to his best, Blues fans will have plenty to look forward to next season.

LW: Rolando Aarons

Any bid from Birmingham for Rolando Aarons would be audacious but - if successful - would be an unbelievable coup for the midlanders. Aarons, aged just 20, is out of contract with relegated Newcastle and if he is isn't given first team assurances by Rafael Benitez, he might explore his options elsewhere.

Arsenal are reportedly keeping their tabs on his contract situation and ready to pounce so the Blues will have to make an irresistible offer for the exciting Jamaica-born England youth international.

ST: Clayton Donaldson

Donaldson could be considered as a somewhat unsung hero.

His goals helped Birmingham survive the drop last year and 11 goals this year aided their continued climb up the Championship table. Donaldson does a lot of running up front and has bags of pace, energy and strength.

The Jamaica international could continue to spearhead the Blues attack next year and with better service could score the much-needed goals in their promotion attempt.
