Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed an excellent season last term as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League following a painful late defeat against Hull in the play off final.

They should not let this deter them though going into next season, as the Owls will be looking to build on the success they had last year and try and cement a top two place.

One of the reasons the club did so well in the league last term was the attacking threat going forward, but this should not take away from what was in general a very solid defence as well.

Kieran Westwood showed himself to be one of the best goalkeepers outside of the Premier League and he will be tasked once more with commanding a defence to try and keep the opposition out.

There isn't much that needs to be done with regards to the Owls' back four, but the odd tweak or signing could make a difference.

Here is the DREAM defence for Sheffield Wednesday next season....

RB - Jack Hunt

huntttt

No point really in not selecting and sticking with the marauding right back who shone following his move to the club last season.

Hunt is a consistent performer at Championship level and will be looking to maintain that level of performance as the Owls head into next season.

The former Crystal Palace man is sound defensively and offers real pace down the right hand side when attacking, so he will once again be one of Carvalhals key men.

CB - Lewis Dunk

With the Owls expected to go and spend again, there is no reason why they should not test the resolve of one of their rivals and put in a cheeky bid for Lewis Dunk.

Dunk was one of the standout performers across the league last season as Brighton came within a goal of snatching automatic promotion before losing out in the play offs.

He is big, strong, and dominant in the air, making him the ideal central defender in the Championship.

CB - Tom Lees

leessss

The Owls defensive lynch pin has been tremendous since arriving from Leeds United, and has gone on to become a real crowd favourite at Hillsborough.

His no nonsense displays and commitment to the cause endear him to the Owls fans, but he is more than just that, he is a genuine classy operator in the middle of the back four.

Keeping Lees will be imperative for Carvalhal, and paired with Dunk he could well form the best defensive pairing in the league.

LB - Daniel Pudil

pudil

The Watford man has returned to his club after spending last season on loan at S6 where he impressed with his dynamic displays from the left hand side.

The Owls have been quoted a price for Pudil and they have yet to come to an agreement, but many Owls fans believe that he should be the left back they target.

If they can manage to get a deal done for Pudil, it will complete the defence nicely as well as continuing some of the momentum and consistency which they had last season.
