Middlesbrough are facing a pivotal evening as they travel to take on Coventry City at St Andrews.

The Teessiders are in the middle of a difficult run after winning just two of their last nine fixtures in the Championship.

Neil Warnock's side had hopes of securing a play-off spot however those aspirations have dampened somewhat with a lack of consistency looking likely to be their downfall as they pursue a top six finish.

The clash with the Sky Blues is seen by many as a must-win as far as the promotion race is concerned, but what are the dilemmas that Warnock faces going into this match? Let's take a look.

The central midfield dilemma

January's new arrivals seems to have cast doubt in Neil Warnock's mind about the best combination of players in the engine room.

While Jonny Howson is a dead cert to start the game, Middlesbrough have seen George Saville, Sam Morsy, Neeskens Kebano and Marcus Tavernier all rotated in the middle of the park as the gaffer looks to find the best combination.

Warnock will no doubt be pleased to have lots of options in that area but it's crucial that he finds the perfect blend of players to ensure that Middlesbrough are not only hard to beat against Coventry, but also have the quality needed to go and win the game.

Freshening things up

There's an argument that things have gone a little bit stale for Middlesbrough since the turn of the year.

Neil Warnock likes to keep a consistent line-up and that could be seen as a reason why the Teessiders don't look as sharp as they did before Christmas.

On Saturday against Cardiff we saw the likes of Djed Spence, Marvin Johnson and Marcus Tavernier come into the side after spells out of the team and look really fresh, so perhaps that's an avenue that he'll look to explore against Coventry this evening.

Starting Chuba Akpom

Middlesbrough are really struggling for in-form attackers at the moment.

With Ashley Fletcher injured Britt Assombalonga started at the weekend against Cardiff but did little convince Neil Warnock that he was deserving of a place in the starting XI.

Chuba Akpom has struggled this season but looked full of life after his introduction in the second half against the Bluebirds and perhaps that cameo performance will be enough to convince Warnock that he should start against Cardiff and maybe even enjoy a run of games in the starting XI in a bid to rebuild his confidence.
