In their first season at Championship level since the 2012-13 campaign, Peterborough United were unable to secure a second-straight year in the second tier as they were relegated straight back to League One.
Following an eight-year exile, Posh were unable to maintain any momentum they'd created during the previous season, and poor results led to the sacking of Darren Ferguson once again.
Grant McCann returned to London Road but despite a general up-turn in form, the Northern Irishman was unable to save the club from relegation.
McCann will be the man tasked though with trying to guide Posh back to the Championship at the first time of asking - let's look at the transfer dilemmas he could have on his hands in the coming weeks as the market gets set to officially open.
Whether to raid Hull for ex-players
Peterborough already have a squad of players put together that looks tailor-made to have another crack at promotion, and there's not likely to be many outgoings this summer.
Some additions will be needed though to bolster the squad, and you cannot beat a bit of experience - something that Posh are perhaps lacking.
Because of that, McCann may look towards two players he had under his management at Hull in Richie Smallwood and Tom Eaves, who have both been released by the Tigers.
Smallwood appeared 42 times in the Championship last season and Eaves played 31 games, scoring five goals, and whilst both probably hope they can stay in the second tier, a move to the Weston Homes Stadium would be a positive one.
Which goalkeeper arrives as #1
Peterborough currently do not have a senior goalkeeper on their books, with Dai Cornell released, Steven Benda headed back to Swansea City following his loan deal and Christy Pym transfer listed.
Benda though will not be heading back to Posh permanently, with the club priced out of a deal for the 23-year-old, so attentions will have to turn elsewhere.
McCann now has to decide which goalkeepers he is going to target for his squad this summer, with perhaps a mix of permanent options and loanees considered - it will be a difficult conundrum to solve anyway.
Cash in or not to cash in on Edwards
Having been acquired from non-league Barnet in 2020, Ronnie Edwards had a break-out campaign for Peterborough last season, featuring 34 times in the league and despite being part of a relegated side, he won admirers from the top flight of English football.
The teenager is a regular at England under-19 level, playing alongside youngsters from top clubs, and that's where Edwards could be heading this summer.
Barry Fry has ideally stated that if sold, Edwards will head back to the club on loan for one season, but it remains to be seen if the 19-year-old will actually depart.
Southampton and Aston Villa are the latest clubs to join Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Manchester United in the race for his signature, and McCann may not get the choice of being able to keep him should an acceptable offer be placed on the table of the Posh hierarchy.
