It was a difficult campaign at Carrow Road as Norwich City suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Dean Smith was appointed to replace Daniel Farke following a poor start to the season.

But the former Aston Villa and Brentford coach was unable to guide the team away from the bottom three.

The 51-year old must now prepare for life in the Championship once again as the club looks to bounce back immediately by gaining promotion back to the top flight.

Norwich have won a top two place in both of their previous seasons in the second division.

Here are two dilemmas Smith faces ahead of the summer transfer window at Norwich City…

Max Aarons’ future

The full back has garnered interest from Manchester United, with the Red Devils considering a move for the 22-year old.

The report suggests that Ethan Laird will be used as a makeweight, with the United youngster going the other way on a temporary basis.

It is likely that Aarons will also attract further interest in his services given his performances for the side in recent seasons.

The defender has been an important part of the team under both Farke and Smith, so preparations will need to be made in the event that Aarons does depart Carrow Road this summer.

The Englishman played 34 of Norwich’s league games this season, following on from featuring 45 times in the Championship the previous campaign, showing how important he has become to the team.

Todd Cantwell plans

Cantwell has returned from an unsuccessful loan stint with Bournemouth in which the Cherries opted not to trigger the clause in their loan agreement to keep the midfielder on a permanent basis.

The playmaker had fallen out of favour in the starting lineup following the appointment of Smith.

That raises doubts over Cantwell’s future with the club going into the summer window.

The Norwich boss will need to evaluate the 24-year old’s time at the Vitality Stadium and decide whether he is part of the team’s plans for next season.

Cantwell still has plenty to offer, but if he is not part of Smith’s plans then a new club will need to be found for the midfielder this summer.
