Derby County head to Old Trafford tonight to take on Manchester United in the third round of the League Cup.

Frank Lampard takes his side to the Premier League giants and comes up against his former boss form his Chelsea days, Jose Mourinho, for the first time since his move into management.

The Rams go into tonight’s game on the back of an impressive 3-1 win over early high-flyers Brentford last weekend.

Tonight’s clash could be an opportunity to rest some players after what has been an intense period for Championship sides since the turn of the international break.

But with such a high-profile fixture, the fledgeling Derby boss might opt for a more experienced team to try and take down the top-flight powerhouse.

With that said, here at FLW, we took a look at the Rams XI we expect to start this evening against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

An ever-present this season, Scott Carson is without a doubt expected to retain his place in the side for the trip to Old Trafford.

Jayden Bogle has been the first-choice right-back, for the most part, this season.

And as he has had a little less game time than the others in the side he is expected to start tonight ahead of Andre Wisdom in defence.

The Rams’ captain in the absence of Curtis Davies, Richard Keogh will continue to deputise at the back for Derby this evening.

He is playing his way back into fine form and will retain the armband and his place for the trip to Old Trafford.

He has been given his opportunity due to the injury of Curtis Davies and Fikayo Tomori has taken it with both hands.

A young, dependable centre-half who will play for the first time at Old Trafford this evening, we expect.

Craig Forsyth has been preferred at left-back in recent weeks but Scott Malone came on in the win over Brentford last weekend; it could have been for valuable minutes ahead of tonight’s clash.

You would expect Forsyth to be rested in favour of Malone starting the League Cup tie against Manchester United.

Bradley Johnson has been in the starting XI more often recently and is playing well, so after the weekend’s win, he is expected to start this evening at Old Trafford.

Joe Ledley did not feature in the match-day squad for Derby at the weekend, but Craig Bryson could be rested.

The former Wales international could be recalled to the squad, and the starting line-up in one change Frank Lampard is expected to make for tonight’s cup tie.

The star for Derby this season, he is making them tick in advanced areas.

There is no way the young Chelsea loanee will be rested this evening - Mason Mount is fully expected to start against Manchester United this evening.

After a slow start to life at Pride Park, Florian Jozefzoon has established himself in the starting XI of Frank Lampard’s side.

He has been impressive since his inclusions from the start and with Derby’s attack their main weapon; the forward should retain his place for this evening’s cup clash.

A second-half substitute in the win over Brentford at the weekend, Jack Marriott could well start this evening.

David Nugent is at the stage in his career where two or three games in a week might be a little too much, and with the intensity of tonight’s opponents, the summer arrival is expected to lead the line.

Mason Bennett was impressive in the weekend win over Brentford and having not featured too often this season; he is expected to start in attack for Derby County.

That means Harry Wilson is set to be rested in place for Bennett who should retain his place this evening.
